That is one of the sadnesses of church life. Some get bruised, weary and discouraged and take a very long breather.  The kind of people that the letter to the Hebrews was meant to stir back up to action. Others get comfortable or tangled up with their own affairs, and become useless to the completion of the good work.  Others have, in practice, turned away from Christ (although not always from church) and made “gods of their bellies” as Paul describes it.

But these are not typical in gospel churches. God is faithful and continues to carry out his work through faithful and Spirit-filled people.  People who live by the gospel, who seek to see the gospel continue to advance, who are bold enough to keep on speaking the word of the Lord. Whose interests are those of Jesus Christ.

At Willetton and Canning Vale we are part way to completion. What will sustain us in our part of carrying forward God’s purposes is a deepening understanding of the central place of Jesus Christ in our lives. Which comes only by a deepening understanding and practice of the scriptures.
