What Is Prayer Ministry?

There are different forms of Prayer Ministry, but this form involves the belief that God, through prayer, can bring freedom, healing or strength. Prayer Ministry is not counselling although it involves some talking in order to clarify the issues to pray about. It is a way of praying that brings together a person's prayers with those of a ministry team to ask God for healing, freedom, strength, or whatever is needed.

How Does it Work?

After clarifying the issues, the person usually prays, asking God for forgiveness, healing, or help. They may also make commitments about new ways of living, and ask God's help to live in the new way. Sometimes they tell God that they are no longer going to hold things against another person. Renouncing old ways of thinking and behaving, asking for God's healing and help, and deciding to live differently are common matters of prayer in Prayer Ministry.

After the person prays, the team prays for them. Laying on hands in some cases, declaring God's forgiveness, discerning spiritual oppression, asking God for healing, and calling out to God for new strength are some of the things the team prays for.

Who Can Benefit From Prayer Ministry?

Anyone really. It is especially helpful for people who are involved in Christian ministry. It is an opportunity to find healing for disappointments, resentments, criticisms and other scars. We often get hurt, angry, and frustrated in ministry. Sometimes we have made decisions and done things which still affect how we live. These may have been coping devices which were the best we could do at the time, but they are still affecting how we think and live. In other cases we have done bad things which still trouble us. Prayer Ministry allows us to call on God for real healing and change.
