That famous first murderer, Cain, put it clearly when he expressed his devastation at being sent away from the presence of the Lord. He saw that he would be abandoned in a deadly world where his life would easily be taken, with no help from God.

But God did not completely abandon even Cain. He put his mark on him to protect him, just as he had put his image on each of the humans. His image had another purpose. It not only marked the origins and ownership of humans but also their destiny. It was like a sign that God would chase after his race and bring them back to the orchard where they and he could live together.

But the rescue of humans from their danger and their dangerousness involved the true image (the Son) becoming like the copy of the image (humans), and putting an end to their rebelliousness and dangerousness by killing them off – in the hope that God would raise this true image from death, so that the race could start again.

And in the new race, originated in the Son, the original Mentor takes up residence again, in advance of the return to the true orchard, so that the new humans can live in a dangerous world the way they were meant to. With wisdom, and guidance. With grace and kindness. With the ways and thoughts of God in their minds to help them use uranium and other dangerous things in the way God wants them to.
