Is this a set-up?

Well, it could be. If God is involved. On Wednesday we read about Peter finding his way to a town only 15 km from where a notable Christian woman was dying. He was there in time to be summoned to Joppa (now Jaffa, a suburb of Tel-Aviv) where Tabitha had died. This was a set-up. God planned the occasion to show his power and mercy through Peter to this godly woman and her community.

Peter soon found himself involved in a more ornate set-up. This one involved a foreign soldier up the coast having a vision of an angel, telling him to send for Peter. Meanwhile Peter himself had had a vision (he probably thought it was more like a nightmare at first). It was about eating food he had been brought up to consider out-of-bounds – disgusting really.

Bless the Father of the Family

May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ be praised. So said Peter and Paul. So say we. The Father from whom every family in heaven and earth is named. The Father from whom all fatherhood originates.

Fathers and families. Happy fathers’ day to all the fathers.  Not always an enviable job. In fact these days a pretty despised job, to be a father. A significant minority seems to think we don’t really need fathers in families.

One of the problems is that some fathers have given the rest a bad name. And some have confused their bad, or not-very-good human father with God. But God is not, in the first place, our father. He is first of all the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ.  It is that relationship which tells us what kind of a father he is. He is a very good one, if the Bible is to be believed.

A culture of invitation

“If you build it, they will come.” If you start a new service, will they come? Maybe once they might have, but not now. For most people church is not part of their thought world.

Although, the recent census revealed that 2786 people in Willetton said they were Anglicans. That is quite a lot of people. Perhaps some go to other Anglican churches, perhaps some have a different definition of Anglican. But they did tick that box.

But how will they find their way to Christ the King? Here is an answer from Dr James White,
